Poem of the Day #15- 7/10/17

Weary faces step from platform to train
Announcements drone out,
Naming distant towns
And for each of us
Among those places

It starts with a rumble
Then lights flash by until
The sun explodes
through the windows
And train yards replace the dark
Before giving way
To those towns
Among those places

As the train rocks
My mind drifts back
To days before trains
To ancient hunts
When men would haul
Back their kills
Back over the buffalo trail
To camps left days before

And nothing chimed out
The names of the places
They must pass
Among those places

E.H. Decker is the name of a pen, like Mark Twain, not A.T. Cross. Said pen belongs to a father of two writing between jobs on movies, parenting and obsessing over movies, tv, music, wine and words.
